Here's what a few recent volunteers have to say about their time with EMCY:
My year as a volunteer at EMCY was really a great experience. I had the possibility to learn a lot about cultural work in a European framework could enhance my (English) communication skills and enjoyed the company of interesting and wonderful people in the EMCY team. I think this experience will be very precious for my future and has helped to make a career decision besides being a lot of fun and full of surprises!
(Darja Gleinser, Germany)
Volunteering in the EMCY Office, I learnt many new skills. There was plenty of variety to the work, whether keeping in touch with our competitions all over Europe, getting to travel to events, attending concerts, or meeting the young musicians promoted by EMCY. I developed my technical, musical and cultural knowledge, and we shared a great sense of satisfaction when projects were completed and evaluated positively. It’s a cliché that music’s a common language, of course, but it’s true: it meant I had something in common with everybody I worked with, no matter which corner of Europe they were from. I’ve taken many fond and fun memories away from my time in Munich: with colleagues at EMCY, Jugend musiziert, member competitions and other voluntary organisations too. Thanks for the good times, EMCY!
(Chris McNulty, United Kingdom)
My EVS year at EMCY was a long-awaited project, but well worth the time. Not only I gained new knowledge and experiences about international cultural management and was able to contribute to the development of European music life, but also had a great opportunity to work with cool and supporting colleagues. And that’s something I’m really grateful for :-)
(Keijo Kalmiste, Estonia)
Being a volunteer at the EMCY Office for me was a time I will always remember with a smile on my face. Learning about the cultural Europe in a warm atmosphere, taking responsibility for my own projects and meeting such wonderful people from different parts of Europe was more than I ever expected from my year at EMCY. During this time I was able to learn about myself and my skills. Looking back I can honestly say that I miss the time at EMCY and I hope that I will stay in touch with the office and all the volunteers I met during my stay.
