Report from the 'Norwegian Music Competition for Youth’ 2009

In 2009 there were competitions for the following categories at the 'Ungdommens Musikkmesterskap - Norwegian Music Competition for Youth': Piano, wind, percussion, duo and ensemble.

The competition had two rounds: • Regional rounds in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Kristiansand and Tromsö in October Final rounds Oslo November 20th to 22nd: 105 children and young people under 23 years of age took part in the final rounds Most remarkable prize winners: • Musician of the Year 2009: Ingrid Softeland Neset, flute (Wind 16-18 years) – 25 points (German point system) • Haavard Salvesen Njolstad, sax (wind 13-15 years) - 24 points • Linnéa Sundfaer Haug, recorder (wind 19-22 years) – 23 points • Julie Ye Yuqing, piano (piano, 16-18 years) – 25 points • Duo Saxiano – Haavard Njolstad, sax and Christian Sommerfelt, piano |

EMCY president Frank Reich in the piano jury
The competitions had many prominent musicians in the different juries. EMCY President Frank Reich was member of the piano jury.
European Concert
Santi Novoa, trombone (Spain), Artemij Bussivikov and Severin Stitzenberger, both percussion (Germany) and Guro Kleven Hagen, violin (Musician of the Year 2008, Norway) were all playing successfully at the European Concert on Saturday night. The concert was repeated at Manglerud Upper Secondary school on Monday 23rd November.
Prize Winners’ concert
On Sunday 22nd November all best 1st prize winners took part in the prize winners’ concert. All prize winners won concerts in Norway and abroad. The 'Norwegian Music Competitions for Youth' cooperates with Finland, Malta, Slovenia and Spain about concerts and tours in 2010.
