Background: The Musical Society of Lublin was founded in 1898 and organized the First National Festival of Violinists in 1970. The first foreign guests were invited to take part in the event three years later. Growing interest in the competition encouraged the activists of the Musical Society to extend its formula. I International Competition of Young Violinists was organised in 1979 and attracted 72 participants from 9 European countries. It was agreed that the consecutive editions of this event should be organised every three years.

This rule is still being applied and the competition is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Province Parliament Office of the Lublin, the City Office of the Lublin, the Rotary Club Lublin Centre and the Henry Wieniawski Musical Society of Lublin. Side by side with the international competitions the Musical Society of Lublin also organises the National Competition of Young Violinists in Honour of Stanis³aw Serwaczyñski. The patron of this event was a violinist, composer and a pedagogue, born in Lublin in 1781, in his lifetime known almost all around Europe.
