Successful finale in Geneva
The 35th Swiss National Competition SJMW was closed by the price giving ceremony and the prize winners concert at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève on Sunday, 9th May 2010. 227 prizes and 67 special prizes were awarded. The competition in all disciplines took place at the ‘Jaques-Dalcroze’ Institute from 6th to 8th May 2010.
From all over Switzerland they came to present themselves again to the judges and to proof their music skills: 341 participants who won in the eight regional competitions. In Geneva only the best of the best were awarded.
The finale took place in 26 disciplines. Next to the different duo and ensemble combinations and the discipline composing also in the solo categories strings, wood wind instruments, harp, accordion, drums and dulcimer. Every jury consisted of five experts judged on the pieces played by the participants and 23 extraordinary soloists and chamber music ensembles were awarded a first price with and honourable mention. The closing concert proofed that they all disserved it. The recordings of the concert will be broadcast by Swiss Radio DRS2 at a later time.
Another 72 young musicians received a first price. In addition 67 special prices were awarded to the musicians.

The foundation SJMW thanks especially its main partner the Credit Suisse Foundation which makes the competition possible with its financial support for now 7 years. SJMW thanks also Pro Infirmis and the venues in Geneva for their support: the ‘Jaques-Dalcroze’ Institute, the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique Genève. Additional subsidies were given the cultural commissioners of each canton, who give an amount to the basic funding of the competition, the ‘Baugarten’ foundation and Migros-Kulturporzent as well as the sponsors: SUISAStiftung for music, Swiss Radio DRS”, Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zurich, SoftCon Software & Consulting GmbH, PricewaterhouseCoopers AG Zürich and OBT Treuhand AG.
Prize winner concert:
Within the ‘Musikfestival Schloss Werdeberg’ three special concerts take place this year. Prize winners of the 35th Swiss National Competition SJMW who were awarded first prizes in the finale of the competition present their talent to the audience. The concerts take place on 4th, 13th and 20th May 2010 at Schloss Wardenberg.
