Review of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes and European Competition of Young Soloists 2011

The 28th edition of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes took place on Sunday 13th November 2011 in Luxembourg including the European Competition of Young Soloists in the categories baritone, euphonium, trombone, tuba and singing.

The competition is organised by the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe (UGDA) together with the Music Conservatoire of the City of Luxembourg and receives financial support from the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Family and Integration Affairs and National Cultural Fund.

In this year’s competition 126 young people in total from 15 different nationalities from conservatoires and music schools in Luxembourg and abroad participated in three different disciplines. The performances of both national and European level were of high quality as evidenced by the results of the competition. The international jury awarded 120 medals in total, including 44 gold, 50 silver and 26 bronze medals. Furthermore, 14 'Prix SACEM' were awarded and trumpet player Kenji Tex became winner of the EMCY Prize.

The closing concert of the competition was given at 18.00 in the Auditorium of the Luxembourg Music Conservatoire by the World Champion Wind Orchestra at the WMC in Kerkrade, the Koninklijke Harmonie Sainte Cécile Eijsden under Jan Cober, EMCY Prize Winner Chloé Kiffer (violin) from France and bass-baritone Martin E. Hatlo from Norway. ugda
The next competition will be held on 11th November 2012 at the Music Conservatoire of the City of Luxembourg (Luxembourg) and will be open for musicians in the categories clarinet, saxophone and chamber music (woodwinds).
