What does music mean to you? Master class on contemporary music for EMCY Prize winners

The international master class Epoche-f has been concluded with two extraordinary concerts at the Galerie Herrenhäuser Gärten in Hannover and the Landesmusikakademie in Wolfenbüttel.

The concerts were conducted by Frank Ollu and the Ensemble Modern together with the young scholars played a various programme:

World Premier of Uroš Rojko´s SPOJ III (2014/15)

Elliott Carter: Asko Concerto (1999/2000)

Arnold Schönberg: Ein Stelldichein (1905)

Nikos Skalkottas: 5 Greek dances for strings (1931-1936)

Kazimierz Serocki: Singing Music

Earle Brown: Novara

The young musicians presented the programme and as a special feature, pupils of the Sophie-Scholl school (Wennigsen) interpreted John Cage´s Variations VIII using the facilities offered by the wonderful concert hall (Watch the video on EMCY´s Facebook page).

Next to prize winner of Jugend musiziert, the participants were n cooperation with the Stiftung Niedersachsen EMCY sent four EMCY prize winners to the master class:

• Miguel Erlich (violin)

• Sofia Sousa (viola) prize winners of the Prémio Jovens Músicos

Dorotė Vdovinskytė, prize winner of the Concours from the Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists

• Deividas Dumcius, prize winner of the National Lithuanian Balys Dvarionas Piano & String Competition

In this one week master class the prize winners were accompanied and taught by the tutors of the International Ensemble Modern Academy:

Johannes Schwarz (woodwinds)

Valentin Garvie (brass)

Georgios Panagiotitis (strings)

Hermann Kretzschmar (piano)

Rainer Römer (drums)
The master class took place at the Landesmusikschulakademie Niedersachsen, Wolfenbüttel and the costs were covered by full scholarships.
