International Summer Academy for Young Artists, Marktoberdorf, Germany

Date: 1st to 12th July 2010

Solo tuition, concerts, chamber music, meeting other talented young artists to learn from each other and make music together.

The course is for gifted string (violin, viola, cello) and piano players aged between 14 and 26 years. The emphasis will be on a repertoire of musical literature from the 18th and 19th centuries. Participants will receive regular teaching in their solo repertoire, but there will also be the opportunity to form chamber music groups working together under the instruction of the teaching stuff. Concerts will be held every evening in the Academy and/or at venues throughout the region. The pieces for the concert programmes will be chosen by the Artistic Director and the teaching staff on the basis of an audition.

Applicants will be selected to take part on the basis of their demo recordings. Course languages are German and English.

With your application, please include the following:

- a short description of your musical background
- a recent photo
- a demo recording of two pieces in different musical styles
- suggestions for a concert repertoire

Repertoire suggestions should include - among others - solo and duet (piano plus strings) pieces from the Classic and Romantic periods and include no more than two works which were originally written to be played with orchestral accompaniment.

The course fee covers all costs for tuition, accomodation and meals. Travelling expenses and the costs for 3rd party and medical insurance must be paid by the participants themselves.
