Arseniy Shkaptsov was born in Orel, Russia. He began learning the bassoon at the age of eleven, under the tutelage of Valery Allakhverdian. In 2006 he entered the bassoon class of the associate professor Stanislav Katenin, in the Central Music School of Moscow State P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.

Arseniy performs in a variety of Moscow concert halls, and in numerous other European cities. He plays regularly with the Orel Gubernatorial Symphony Orchestra, and has performed under some well-known conductors, including Mikhail Pletnev and Ennio Morricone. He has also taken part in the International Regions Symphony Orchestra, Germany. There have been articles about Arseniy in newspapers, and his playing has been broadcast on television.

Arseniy has won prizes in a number of major competitions, including the All-Russian Woodwind Performers Competition in Orel, 2005 (2nd Prize), the ‘Silver Kamerton’ International Competition in Orel, 2006 (1st Prize), the ‘New Names’ International Competition in Moscow, 2008 (1st Prize), and the International Radio Competition for Young Musicians 'Concertino Praga', in Prague, 2011 (1st Prize).
