At the age of three, Jan picked up his brother’s cello and started to brush its strings with the bow. His parents were fascinated by his enthusiasm and suspected great talent. But it was not until he was five and his cello 'playing' was no longer bearable to the ears of his siblings that Jan started attending cello lessons and later enrolled in the preparatory program of Conservatoire of Kosice.

Jan became a full time student at the conservatoire in 2010. He studies the cello under Milan Cervenak, and also attends private classes and/or master courses under Daniel Veis, Csaba Onczay, Martin Müller-Weifenbach and Patrizio Serino.
Jan first played with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Kosice at the age of 12 (C. Saint-Saens Cello Concerto in A minor) and has played with them again on numerous occasions since. He has also played with various other orchestras, such as Bohdan Warchal Orchestra and Musica Iuvenalis Orchestra (as the soloist during their tour in Spain). Over the course of his career, Jan has had the opportunity to play for a number of distinguished persons, such as H.M. Beatrix – Queen of the Netherlands.
When Jan was eight, he won 1st prize at the 'Young Cellist of Slovakia' competition, and at the age of nine, he received 1st prize in an international competition 'Wettbewerb für Violoncello' in Austria. A year later, he became the laureate (across all instruments) of the Eugen Suchon competition in Slovakia. When he was 13 and still in the preparatory program, Jan won the competition of students of Slovak conservatories. In 2009, he was awarded 1st place in the cello category and became the overall laureate of an international competition 'Talents for Europe' in Slovakia.
In 2008, Jan won a grant to purchase a master cello as part of the 'Talent of New Europe' competition, and in 2010 he won a special jury prize to help finance his attendance of master classes.
Jan has been playing chamber music for five years as part of a string trio, a piano trio and a string quartet. In 2010 his string trio won the chamber music category of the competition of students of Slovak conservatories.
On top of his solo career and classical chamber music engagement, Jan enjoys playing his cello together with fellow musician friends, covering everything from modern classical to tangos.
Jan plays a Frantisek Zakopcanik cello and a Peter Richtarik bow.
