Marta Kowalczyk, a young Polish violinist born in 1991 in Koszalin, started learning the violin at the age of seven with Prof. Malgorzata Kobierska in the Crayzna Bacewicz State Music School in Koszalin. Presently, she works with Prof. Jan Stanienda in the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
In 2008, she won the Polish preliminaries of Eurovision Young Musicians and represented Poland in the International Eurovision Competition in Vienna. She has also won numerous other national and international competitions, receiving, among others, the prize of the National 'Paganini Junior' Radio Bis Competition, the 1st Prize in the National Tadeusz Wronski Competition for Solo Violin Performers, 1st Prize in the National Groblicz Family Competition in Krakow, 1st Prize and EMCY Prize in the International Competition for Violin and Viola 'Festival Bled' (Slovenia).
She has given concerts in many European countries, as well as China, Canada and Russia. She frequently performs with the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, and has also appeared with the Sinfonia Varsovia, Krakow Philharmonic, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the National Orchestra at the 'Chopin and his Europe' Festival, under such conductors as Jacek Kaspszyk, Ruben Silva, Slawomir Chrzanowski, Jan Stanienda, Antoni Wit and Lukasz Borowicz.
Marta Kowalczyk was awarded the scholarships of the National Fund for Children, Minister of Culture and the National Heritage, and the Young Poland scholarship programme. She plays a Norbert Kijanka violin of 2004.
In 2011, Marta performed as a soloist on a tour through the United States with the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra for two months.
