Paulína Šmatláková began to play the piano at the age of five, taught by Gabriela Vagačová at the Primary Art School of Ľudovít Rajter in Bratislava, Slovakia. While she was studying, she enjoyed success in numerous piano competitions and concerts, both at home and abroad (Bratislava, Košice, Praha, Györ).
When Paulína was ten, she was awarded the 'Golden Belt' in the 1st category of 'Schneider's Trnava – Solo Piano' 2004, in which she was an overall winner, and given the main prize for the best interpretation of music by Frederick Chopin. Also in 2004, she won 2nd prize at the international Chopin competition in Györ, Hungary. In 2007 she was awarded 1st prize in the 2nd Category of the 'Detský Hudobný Festival Jána Cikkera' a national Slovak piano competition in Banská Bystrica.
In the chamber music competition 'Nirianska lutna a Musica Camerata Jána Albrechta’' she was awarded the 'Golden Belt'. In 2008 she was recognized as a musical 'Talent of New Europe’' by the Central – European Foundation and Slovnaft.
In the competition 'Piano 20. a 21. Century'' 2010, in Bánovce nad Bebravou, Paulína was named 'Laureate of the Competition', and won 1st Prize in the IV. Category. The Slovak section of ISCM gave the joint prize for student and teacher to Paulína and her teacher Gabriela Vagačová.
Paulína Šmatláková studies at the gymnasium of L. Novomeský in Bratislava. She is not only a pianist, but also a drummer, and a passionate dancer of various dance styles.
