Sean Shibe was born in Edinburgh and is currently studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), under Allan Neave. When 15 years old he auditioned for music conservatoires, receiving scholarship offers from the RSAMD, the Trinity College, and the Royal College of Music in London. He received a Diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) (performance) with distinction in the summer before assuming his place in the RSAMD, as the youngest musician to ever enter the establishment.

He has worked with such groups as the Scottish Flute Trio and the Scottish Opera, and is in regular demand from guitar festivals around the United Kingdom, having performed at Dundee Guitar Festival, Big Guitar Weekend and Ullapool Guitar Festival. In 2009, he was invited by the West Dean International Classical Guitar Festival to perform the first movement of the Brouwer Sonata to the maestro himself. In addition to these invitations, he has performed to critical acclaim in the United Kingdom, China, the Netherlands, Germany, and Liechtenstein and has featured on the BBC, European television and radio. 2012 highlights will include his Wigmore Hall debut.

Sean is a regular participant at international guitar festivals worldwide, and has performed in masterclasses with Berta Rojas, Pavel Steidl, John Dearman, Graham Devine, William Kanengeiser, Benjamin Verdery, Tomas Mueller-Pering and Alvarro Pierri among others. He also competes on an international level. In 2008, aged 16, he was a finalist in the first senior competition he entered, "Westfalian Guitar Spring" in Germany, and later that year received the Chanterelle Guitar Prize. The following year he won the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Len Lickorish Award for a String Player of Promise, was awarded 2nd Prize in the LiGiTa Liechtenstein International Guitar Competition and Festival, and 1st Prize in the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. In November 2010 he won the North East Scotland Classical Guitar Society Award, and 6 months later, following the ROSL competition final in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, became only the second guitarist ever to win the gold medal and 1st Prize. Furthermore he was awarded 3rd Prize and Special Prize ‘Hamburger Gitarrenforum’ at the Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists 2011 in Weimar (Germany).

Sean is a D'Addario strings endorsee and has his own blog: www.seanshibe.com.
