Tomasz, Grand Prix and First Prize winner in the Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition 2011, was born in 1989 in Lodz, Poland and started his cello education in 1996 at the H.Wieniawski School of Music in Łódź. He continued until 2007 in the class of Stanislaw Firlej.
Currently he is a student of Michael Flaksman and Jelena Ocic at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim, Germany. From 2009 to 2010 he held the position of principal cellist of the Philharmonisches Orchester der Stadt Heidelberg in Germany. He was for many years a fellow of the Artistic Scholarship, founded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and Baden-Württemberg Kunststiftung. He has participated in a number of festivals, summer seminars, courses and master classes, among them the Kronberg Academy- cello workshops with F. Helmerson and master classes with D. Geringas, B. Greenhouse, H. Schiff, G. Hoffman and Prof. M. Perenyi (Verbier Festival Academy 2008). Tomasz Daroch plays a 'B. Vuillaume, Paris 1830' cello which is lent to him by the 'Landessamlung Streichinstrumente Baden-Württemberg' in Freiburg.
Tomasz Daroch has won many awards and acknowledgments at national and international competitions, among them are the Grand Prix & the 1st Prize at the Results of the Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (Poland, 2011), the 1st Prize at the International Mchał Spisak Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland, 2010), the 1st Prize at the International Cello Competition in Markneukirchen (Germany,2009), 'Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann 2006' in Berlin– Special Award and Leyda Ungerer Prize, the special Prize at International Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Music Competition in Berlin in 2006, the 1st Prize at the 3rd International Music Competition for Young People in Oldenburg in 2005, the 1st Prize at International B. Heran Cello Competition in Usti nad Orlici in Czech Republic in 2005, the 2nd Prize at International Aleksander Tansman Competition of Music Personalities (Łódź, 2004), the 1st Prize at National Cello Competition in Lodz (Poland, 2004), Honorable mention at 'International Radio Competition for Young Musicians 'Concertino Praga' in 2003, the 1st Prize at the 6th K. Wilkomirski National Cello Competition in Poznan (Poland, 2002), and the 1st Prize at the 4th International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition in Poreć (Croatia, 2002).
