Valeria Curti was born in Zurich and grew up in a small town near Zurich called Brugg, as the youngest of three children. Her love of music began at the age of six, when she started to play the recorder at the local music school. There, she later took cello and solo singing classes before changing to the bassoon at the age of nine. Her first bassoon teacher, Patrik Lüscher, taught her during five years at the music school in Brugg. Presently, she is taking classes with Matthias Racz, who teaches the bassoon at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Recently she also participated in the master class of Karsten Nagel in Augsburg (Germany). She plays the bassoon in two symphonic orchestras: the Jugend Sinfonieorchester Zürich and the Siggenthaler Jugendorchester. In parallel with her rich musical activity, she is attending the K&S Gymnasium in Zurich, a specialized high-school for talented musicians, dancers and sport adepts.
Since the beginning of her musical career, Valeria has regularly won regional and national prizes both with the cello and the bassoon. At the final of the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb in 2010 in Geneva, she won 1st Prize with special mention with bassoon solo and 1st Prize in the 'duo' category with her older sister. Her first international competition was the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists in 2009, where she received the 2nd Prize.
